Zoom hailed from Lawrence, KS. Similar story to the Poster Children, midwest-heavy post punk, with noodley math rock elements. The lyrics are a bit tongue and check at times but this record more than any captured what was going on in the midwest during the early nineties "alternative boom". While other bands were heavy and melodic, bands like Zoom and others in the Lawrence scene embraced their pop side as well. Sometimes bubbly, most of the times heavy, these guys never lost sight of the power of a good pop hook and melody to keep you coming back time after time. They were a lot like The Replacements in that you never knew what you were going to get live but when they were on, there was no one better!
Theres a link to the whole record here! Cane Fighter, Five Fingers and Thumb and Letter to Allen are all stand outs.
