SURE RIP
Another dead soldier. This one an actual soldier. Well known NY writer SURE was killed in Afganhistan. Will be missed.

The Church
I've known a number of people over the years who've sworn by Australia's The Church, particularly live. Have to confess, I'm not too familiar with them but gave a listen to their new EP this morning (below). First few tracks are pretty solid. On tour after the new year, so I think I'll see if this "live" buzz is all it's cracked up to be.

The Black Angels - Young Men Dead
This song, by the Black Angels, has been in heavy rotation for me for the past month.
I knew I liked you Shanksy.
I knew I liked you Shanksy.
The Sniper at the Gates of Heaven
Been digging the Black Angels pretty heavily the last couple of weeks. Think Brooksy saw them a couple years ago, backing Roky Erickson. As much of the world prepares to celebrate Jesus' birthday next week, "Sniper at the Gates of Heaven" will be on heavy rotation at my place.

Tame Impala
Surprisingly our resident powerpop/hardcore head turned me on to these shoe-gazing Aussies. I dig the dreamy psych mixed with a Blue Cheer edge. haven't had time to dig into the LP....but what I hear is aces..

Austin Comp
Heard Matador's Austin compilation? Not exactly a Chaos set, more indie (again, Matador)... but not a bad collection... includes Bad Sports, Harlem, Love Collector...

Voices
That "Gimme Shelter" vocal track from Merry Clayton (who does Brooksy's fave cover of the song) still has me reeling. Started digging back into some old shit, and have gotten stuck on Roy Orbison. Fuck, nice to rediscover him once in a while...still some of the best pipes ever.
Particularly love this early demo version of "Claudette" with him by himself...complete with a fuck-up in the middle. Then the live version of "Candy Man"...that harmonica almost steals the show. Gotta love the simplicity, and the talent.
Shit, what would the rest of us do without distortion pedals and the like? We'd have to actually be good.

London Calling The Movie
I suspect I'd rather watch Mystery Train several times over than see the under-production Clash movie... but you never know... 24 Party People was fun. Slate.com asked the question today: Who should play Joe Strummer? I haven't the faintest idea. Clive Owen perhaps?

Airfix Kits
Keep it in the family. Best band in SF? sure. Records are mint, even better live and the best band to heckle....
Jason Donahue
J Don is a tattooist who works out of Idle Hand in SF. The guy is fast as shit and has STYLE. He's has inked up a couple of the B&M crew and will no doubt do more. This peacock snake thing is mental.
Birthday Present
A heap of US hardcore for free. Bit of a re-gift I suppose. Sorry I didn't wrap it. Hope you don't already have all of 'em, Brooksy.
Not hardcore, but I like to hear it on the day I get older:

I am a pubescent teen
So I readily admit this is probably the type of thing that 14 year old girls post to their blogs, but I like a dash of levity on this blog once in a while. And I'm not gonna lie, I've laughed at this about 8 times today.
Enjoy.
Enjoy.
Monstrous Psychedelic Bubble
A friend recently turned me onto some psych mixes laid down by Amorphous Androgynous, aka The Future Sound of London. I think there are multiples in the "Bubble" series, and sussing out all the samples (first track is Pop Levi's "Blue Honey") has proven surprisingly difficult, but the first 16 minutes of this particular mix are banging! Kind of falls off after that for me, unfortunately.
But here are those 16!

Rikki Ililonga
More long lost classic Zambian psych has been made available by our friends at Stones Throw records. A staggering triple LP. Can't believe how much great stuff is being unearthed right now from there......
London Bombers
Big fan of the London Train Bomber scene. From way back when FUME< DIET and RATE used to own West London trains. Been gone a long time, but I'm still feeling the whole train explosion... check this 4 car frenzzzzy.

I was hitting up a show at 111 Minna for Mike and Gabe and peeped the other show that was on at the same time by Toshio Saeki - Japan's weird erotic artist. Kinda creepy but I was feeling it... up for another few days - plenty of pics at the Minna site too...

Anti System
Anti System were an anarcho band from the UK who were around in the early 80's. They released 12", LP and 7" before imploding. Not before a couple of them were banged up for animal rights activities. Their catalogue has just been reissued and is worth tracking down if you dig Conflict and Icons Of Filth..,,,, This is the sound of my youth....

Red Red Red
Just got the LP called 'New Action' by Red Red Red. I didn't know shit about the band but I threw the sucker on and got my ears battered by some fucked up garage rock. Gotta be midwest. Chicago? Kinda has a more fucked up Baseball Furies sound... wait... Detroit... Clone Defects? Piranhas??... ok... internet search. Bingo. Drummer of the Piranhas plays geetar... Feeling it. Like the MC5 on acid. Feedback drenched garage punk..... Good. Shit.

Outlaw's Demos
One my favorite collections of outlaw country (right up there with Folsom Prison, etc.) just came out about five year's ago on Sugar Hill Records: Willie Nelson - Crazy: The Demo Sessions. Recorded in the early sixties, the record's full of unadulterated gems. It's as good as the Elvis At Sun record that came out about the same time.

ABH - Don't Mess With The SAS
I love when old bands made videos.... who the fuck got this sorted... this band were a total B list. Vid is sick....
Warlock
while on the subject of hot metal birds... Doro Pesch from Warlock was the ultimate. The band sucked....but she was smokingggg
Madam X
Fuck. Another trip down memory lane. This band were the worst, but me and my brother LOVED this LP! hahaha.... we thought the guitarist and drummer were kinda hot..... thats from the same people who thought Beki Bondage was hot....ahh to be 11 again!!
Warfare - Pure Filth
Along with the Exodus LP I also got the 1t warfare LP, another fave of mine back in the day. From round the corner from Venom, this lot were a bit more punk than Venom, but a similar deal. Skint as fuck, as these 2 videos attest. Wish I could find their sick cover of 'Addicted To Love' retitled 'Addicted To Drugs'.

2010 Scream Awards
Trailer for the Spike Scream awards - homage to Back To The Future...one of my fave movies!!!
Frijid Pink
More semi-obscure 70's goodness. what the fuck was in the water in Detroit?? MC5? stooges? Amboy dukes and these fuckers. They dismantled 'House Of The Rising Sun' , and their debut LP is a scorcher... check it.

More Mod Punk
Always been a fan of the tougher Mod gear - some of the bigger bands like Secret Affair werer waaaay too wimpy, but the good shit....is good shit. The Quads were loved by John Peel but never made it to any comps so kinda got forgotten. This track is a banger....
Mod / Punk?
Spent the last few weeks checking out bands who were lumped in with the mod revival of the late seventies. Most had a pretty limited shelf life - the tag 'mod' proving the kiss of death for most, a small selection here.
James Gang
C list rockers from Ohio. They ipened for Cream and the Who and one of the later drummers joined Deep Purple. Rocking shit though...

Corin Tucker Band
We love Sleater Kinney....always have. At last, Corin Tucker ex of that band has brought out a new LP on Kill Rock Stars... and it kills.
Folk Novice
Another thing I don't know a lick about: folk music. I've read White Bicycles and bought some Leadbelly/Guthrie/Dylan and my cousin works with that Banhart (sp?) fella in LA. Mostly, I'm surprised by what gets classified as folk. But since it was brought up a couple post back, I do think Kristian Matsson is an interesting signer and I suppose he's probably belting out folk.
Brasslands
Klashnekoff
This is about 4 years old....but I was just banging the LP ....class UK vibes
