Henry Fiat's Open Sore
Love this video... and love this band. No idea why these guys aren't huge? too fast for the garage heads, to garage for the hardcore heads... fuck knows. They have been threatening to come stateside forever but still no sign..... here's hoping....
Chocolate Watch Band
So picture this.... 1965, San Jose California... bunch of hip dudes who were in a band called the Chaparrals start jamming in the garage....one of the members shows up "dudes..dudes, I have the perfect name for the band - the Chocolate Watch Band!"... you would expect the other members to tell him to get fucked...but no, thats the name of the band! seriously? wow, the 60's were awesome. I mean San Jose? The Chocolate Watch Band? jesus. You don't get any airy fairy psych shit from these cats, straight up slash and burn garage. Our own 60's guru Dougie turned me onto these years ago, but it's only since owning the vinyl have I really dug into this band... the LP 'No Way Out' is a masterpiece.... and imagine it stoned...holy shit! The band were actually pretty popular and even had a cameo in the hip flick 'Riot On Sunset Strip'....
Touch Me I'm Sick...
Well, don't actually touch me 'cos whatever the fuck I have suuuuucks. Been laid up for 3 days coughing and spluttering.... thought I'd post a sickness related song (tenuous I know). Mudhoney could have been Nirvana...I mean, they kinda were for a while there...pity their singer wasn't a baby faced smackhead eh? I dig Mudhoney... their 1st LP smokes...this is on it. They are still around is some form and good I am sure....

The Move
So I was just reading the latest issue of Ugly Things and they had a cool retrospective on the Move... I band I had always figured to be way too wimpy for my ears.... seems I was wrong... this shit rules. They were right tearaways too by the sounds of things...check those threads maaaaan. Who would have thought they were from Birmingham!!!
LSD
The thought of doing that right now cools the marrow of my bones... but the Pretty Things 'LSD' is true psych monster...

Do They Owe Us A Living?
I've been digging out some of my old anarcho records recently after getting a Siynx CD for review. While not the hugest fan of Crass, they stood for so much that influenced the person I became (both good and bad). This little doc has some good shit in in...
Death Star over San Francisco
If you appreciate Star Wars, San Francisco, or both, then you should check out the video below. Its amazing what a little roto-scoping and After FX can do to geek-out your otherwise mundane home videos.

Eye In The Sky
Red Bull Eye in the Sky from Ivan Mennim on Vimeo.
... We just did some editing on this short film of the Red Bull race in New Zealand. Rainier from SF killed it and won by a huge margin! Thanks to Mike, Ivan and the NZ crew for pulling this together.... and Rainier for an epic race...
JUDGE Documentary
Someone just unearthed a 17 minute documentary on one of the best straight-edge hardcore bands of all time. Enjoy.
Thanks to Double Cross for the heads up.

Furr
Today was one of those days...waking up with a cold and cough, cold and cloudy...slow start to the day. I listened to Chicago Public Radio on the way to work and they had an interview with Portland band Blitzen Trapper. I never realized just how Dylanesque these guys are - especially live. The perfect soundtrack to my day. (Intro shamelessy stolen from the Tobin SOTD).

Gauze
In terms of Japanese hardcore...Gauze are pure legends - they have been around forever and still decimate...as proven by this recent gig footage.... looks like a good time. New LP on Prank records blows minds...

Small Faces
c'mon now...you can never have enough of the Small Faces... classic mid 60's period song about cocaine - these boys were the real deal - east end hardnuts who would knock yer shit in dressed to the nines....
SOTD
Deerhunter- Agoraphobia
It’s been a while, I’ve been in Kikkoman-land, but I’m back on the decks. Like the weather in SF the past few days, this track is weird...but you kinda like it. You don’t want to listen to it a lot, but when it comes on it’s a nice change.
These guys are from the dirty south, Athens Georgia...holla pimp!

No More
It's Earth Day an all...so I almost posted Earth Crisis but then remembered how shit they were. So here's a rad Youth Of Today video promoting vegetarianism... a little tenuous I know but I'm kinda hungover....

Manikin at Beer Land
Oft overlooked Manikin from Austin, TX playing live at the best-named venue/bar ever, Beer Land. Some of the Bricks crew will be playing with them next month at this very same venue. Can't wait. Love, love, love Manikin. Spacy, noisy but always within the parameters of really sing-alongable tunes.

Dolly Mixture - Everything and More
We at Bricks and Mortar aren't afraid of a sweet jangle now and again, and here's one of the greatest... Dolly Mixture's third single from 1982, a damn near perfect pop song!

Slime
Slime were a German punk band who sang in their native tongue rousing street anthems. Always been a fan, especially of the LP "Alle Gegen Alle". Digging on the tube I saw this clip of them playing live.... I had no idea they were that popular...look how many people are in the crowd!!!

Duncan Redmond
So I just got a double LP by Duncan Redmond (he was the drummer for Snuff, Guns & Wankers etc) of songs he wrote and gave to friends on tour, then went back and recorded them ....it is amazing - it plays like a cohesive LP even though it is recorded all over the world with a bunch of different people - if I told you he was playing with Nomeansno, fat mike, frankie stubbs from Leatherface, Simon from Snuff I think you'd know where I was coming from.... easily top 10 of the year.... soooo good. Here's a very old Snuff clip to whet yer appetite.
Troggs
The Troggs were held back a little by 'Wild Thing' which is all they were known for...their is stuff is more ripping....
Music Machine
Me and Dougie were lost in YouTube last night checkin out totally mind blowing videos from the 60's. Check this Music Machine classic.... so out of control...
or maybe the fucking Seeds on TV...what the fuck????

One Sound UK
I've posted before about DJ Holland, easily the most listened to selector round our yard - his reagge and dubstep mixes have kept me occupied on many a long drive... So happy to hear he is out of hibernation in the form of One Sound UK. 3 DJ's bringing together Dub, Reggae, Breaks, Dubstep and Jungke. Recent mixes are available for download and I would suggest you hop on it quicksmart....
Natas
So I saw this Natas Kaupas bike on Keirin Culture and it got me thinking about the Wheels Of Fire skate film that was such a huge influence on me. It came at a time when me and my friends were fiends about skating, young kids in the middle of nowhere dreaming of Santa Monica. Natas' part was just so sick... I guess it looks weak now, but at the time? shit... the commentary he gives is genius...

Ghetto House
Pretty sure most readers aren't gonna be feelin this...but fuck it. Back in the early 90's I was pretty immersed in Detroit Techno and used to frequent clubs like Lost and Eurobeat 2000. For some reason Chicago House went hand in hand, labels like Relief Records and Dancemania with artists like DJ Funk, DJ Deeon, Robert Armani, Boo Williams etc... I still like the sounds, tho I think the scene has changed some since my days.. here is a little insight into the vibez...
MAH
Since our fearless leader went to the great record store in the sky.... the BBC airwaves haven't had a ton to offer.... but I must admit a real soft spot for Mary Ann Hobbs - she turned me onto Dustep along with some other fucked up electronics. She has alos played a lot of great new music from the Bay and for that I respect her... Here's a wee thing on her recent trip to the States... I missed her play of course, but I'm sure it was banging....

camera obscura
It's really nice outside, which always make me want to get high in the park with a group of friends, perhaps also enjoy some cold beverages. Kick a soccer ball around. This video reminds me of that. I'm late to Camera Obscura, but better late then never. I love this song. I think Husker Du would've done a really amazing version of this song. I don't know why.
I just got the latest batch of 7"s from the Art Of The Underground
singles series. They do 1 a month, limited to 350 copies. What I like about the label is that you never really know what you are going to get.... sure there a common ground in Punk Rock but it's a pretty diverse mix from acoustic almost to hardcore... sounds like a mish-mash, but it really works... there's been a couple of duds, but I've also been turned onto some awesome bands. The latest is Cheap Girls who have this scratchy Pavement indie rock vibe. Totally dig the record and was pleased to discover they are a bunch of speccy nerds....awesome - here's them rocking some aucoustic shit...

Lights Out....
It always surprises me to find out who reads this blog..... I was in my local bike shop today talking to the fella Connor behind the counter...and he told me how much he was enjoying the blog... always nice to hear, as is the fact that Connor is backing rocking in a band after the demise of local legends Lights Out. Good to hear, 'cos Lights Out ruled... here's a clip of their last show....
Stockholm Syndrome
I was thinking about old friends today while stuck at work.... so busy that you realize you haven't had time to see the people important to you. Here's a clip of an old band I was in a few years back with a bunch of good friends who I don't see enough of. This is us jumping onto the bill of What Happens Next?s last show at Gilman Street.... we played a 5 minute set... here's half of it. This one is for Spence, Mike and Max...beentoo long fellas.
